The Chasm is a massive mining region in Liyue that was formed when a Celestial Nail fell from the sky in ancient times, leaving a huge crater and disturbing the land beneath it. Deep underground, it contains strange dark energy, ruins linked to Khaenri’ah, and traces of Abyss corruption. During the Cataclysm, it became heavily affected by Abyssal forces and was later sealed off due to the danger. It is significant because it connects Celestia’s past actions, Khaenri’ah’s remains, and the spreading influence of the Abyss all in one place.
The Chasm’s environment is split into two very different layers: the surface quarry and the deep underground mines. On the surface, it looks like a massive collapsed crater filled with jagged cliffs, mining equipment, and unstable rock formations, constantly affected by mining activity and elemental disturbances. Underground, the environment becomes much darker and more hostile. It is filled with thick black mud-like substance, glowing purple Abyssal energy, and abandoned tunnels stretching deep into the earth. Visibility is low, the atmosphere feels heavy and unnatural, and strange energy often distorts the surroundings.
The Chasm is significant because it acts as a major link between the surface world of Teyvat and the hidden depths influenced by the Abyss. It is one of the clearest places where Celestia’s actions can be seen physically, since it was shaped by a Celestial Nail. It also plays an important role in the history of Khaenri’ah and the Cataclysm, as traces of Abyssal corruption and ancient underground activity are found deep within it. This makes it a key location for understanding how the Abyss spreads and how past civilizations were affected by divine intervention.
