Lore of Liyue

Morax

The descend of Morax

Liyue, the Harbor of Contracts, is a land shaped by both the heavens and the hands of men. In ages past, this mountainous region lay wild and untamed, its jade peaks rising into clouds, its rivers carving valleys rich with minerals and life. It was here that Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon Morax, descended from the heavens, taking the name Morax to walk among mortals and guide them in the art of civilization.

Newfound Liyue

Morax brought knowledge of contracts, trade, and law. Under his guidance, villages grew into cities, harvests became reliable, and human ingenuity flourished alongside the natural world. Through careful stewardship, he taught that prosperity requires balance: between wealth and morality, labor and reward, ambition and restraint. His presence was not one of fear or oppression, but of subtle influence, a god who shaped destiny not through force, but through agreement.

The people of Liyue honored him not merely with prayers, but with contracts, a sacred bond that tied action to consequence. In this system, a promise carried weight, and the Archon’s gaze ensured that words were not empty. Commerce, justice, and daily life thrived in tandem, and from these principles arose the city that would become the heart of Liyue Harbor.

Adepti

Yet Liyue’s history is not without struggle. Among the mountains lived the adepti, ancient beings granted power by Morax to maintain the natural and mystical balance. They guided humanity, but also protected Liyue from celestial and abyssal threats that sought to disturb the land. Notable among them was Xiao, the vigilant Yaksha, whose duty to protect Liyue spanned centuries. Though revered, the adepti bore great suffering, and their presence reminded mortals that prosperity comes at a cost.

Over time, human ambition grew alongside commerce. Guilds formed, merchants competed, and politics became intertwined with wealth. Morax observed quietly, allowing the people to take charge, yet always ready to intervene should greed or chaos threaten the balance. His greatest work was the construction of Liyue Harbor itself, a city both grand and functional, where the mountains meet the sea and contracts guide both trade and trust.

The Cataclysm

The Cataclysm, which tore across Teyvat, left scars in Liyue as elsewhere, yet the city endured. Through disasters, political intrigue, and the passage of centuries, the people learned that contracts were more than mere law—they were the threads holding society together, binding individuals to one another and to the legacy of the Archon.

Modern Liyue

In the present day, Liyue stands as a testament to order and tradition. Its citizens honor Morax not out of fear, but from respect for the stability he fostered. Festivals celebrate both mortal achievement and divine guidance, while the mountains and rivers remain dotted with the temples and statues of those who safeguard the land. Liyue’s philosophy is clear: wisdom, foresight, and the careful keeping of promises create harmony, and through such harmony, prosperity endures.

Thus, Liyue thrives as a city of stone and sea, contracts and courage, where the hand of the Archon guides without ruling, and the people themselves uphold the principles that make the Harbor of Contracts a jewel of Teyvat.
